The Exorcism Of Emily Rose - Official® Trailer [HD]

Again after looking at a number of trailers similar to our own genre, this has started to make us think of some ideas for our trailer.
There are many aspects of this trailer that we could incorporate into our own, for example the use of a voice over briefly explaining some of the background story.

Also there is a very wide range of camera shots used for a number of reasons to gain the desired affect. The use of titles are also used very well, in explaining storyline, separating shots and building suspense.

The use of music and sound affects is also used to create the horror aspect, as well as trying to affect the audience so they will go and see the final film.

Paranormal Activity 2 and 3 trailer analysis

Both of these films follow the same guidelines and basic storyline for the trailers. They are all created to build suspense and anticipation about the film which is done very well in a number of ways. The trailers give very little way about the actually storyline, however you can clearly see its a horror film. Its shown easily by the colour scheme, very dark colours which emphasises the feeling of vulnerability. Another big aspect of these trailers and other horror films, especially with the second of the 3 trailers is the fact its all at night. The night time with horror films gives the huge feeling of being unsafe and very unprotected, which is something we're taking in to consideration when we make my final trailer.

Also because of the way they're all filmed in the trailer, it creates a good level of continuity. The shots are mostly with the point of view of a hand held camera which creates the storyline of it all being on the same similar time line.

Another important aspect of the paranormal activity films is probably the most similar film me and Sidney are try to create, which allows us to get some ideas or inspiration for our own ideas.

Costume/Prop ideas

Our Main protagonist will be an average person, meaning our actor will only have to wear their normal clothes. Also the horror element of our film will come from a demon hunting the house and as in the paranormal activity films nobody including our main protagonist will not be able to see it.

However for the number of ideas that we have to far we will need a wide variety of props, thankfully the majority of these will be everyday around the house objects. Some won't be for example if we chose to use something like fishing line which would be impossible to see on the camera as a way of shutting doors and making things move or fall of shelves then we would need to get our hands of this before filming.

Script Ideas and Music

For our Trailer i thought about firstly having a script, However thinking about other horror film genres i thought that i would have mostly music over the trailer with some very little dialogue. However the minimum that would be there would show the fear of our main protagonist and explain some parts of the storyline

It would be used to build tension and suspense whilst some of the brief parts of dialogue would add affect to my trailer.
However we will begin to look at non copy right music which would fit our trailer and the genre. Mealing it will have to be fairly slower paced at the start and gradually increasing as the editing pace begins to quicken.

After Filming last year some of the dialogue can be fairly unclear and not the highest quality, so if we decide we need an important bit of dialogue which would be a very key point of the storyline and trailer, we could use a vioce over and put the dialouge in over the clips during editing.

Film Location ideas

For our trailer we will try and use a few locations, however the main ones will be either mine or Sidney's house. Once we have made a final decision on this I will post the locations along with some pictures.

Audience Analysis

Now we have decided on our genre and got some ideas for the storyline we can begin relating it to the audience.

The main target audience we will try to be targeting would be males any age above 18, which will probably we the certificate for our film. We will also try to target the more hard-core of horror film goers, as many of them who enjoyed films similar to ours will be drawn to the final film.

Another reason for our chosen audience for our horror film is because when it comes to younger men. watching a horror film or saying you've seen is it something to be proud of. It becomes a measurement of their masculinity, and if you haven't seen it then you're obviously too scared. So by knowing this we aim to generate a following and a lot of hype about our film around the target audience though our trailer and word of mouth.

Audience Profiling

This Website shows a clear and simple say of presenting the audience profiles of the film Paranormal activity. This film as many aspects of a trailer that we would base ours on, with the storyline being similar, camera shots and face paced editing.
This information shows that a massive 79% of the audience for paranormal activity was ages 15-24, this is very helpful in knowing who to aim our film trailer at in terms of ages. It is also very helpful as it help us decide on the age certificate of our film. At first Sid and I where unsure whether it should be a 15 age rating or an 18, although it mainly depends on the content of the film and trailer this table gives a clear indication of the ages that are very likely to see our film.

The Ring [trailer] (2002) Horror Genre Analysis

The Ring trailer shows many different aspects of horror film cliches. one of them being seen in the main character, a young attractive vulnerable looking women.
In the trailer the majority of the shots are very dark, adding to the horror film cliches.
Also another cliche used in the trailer is the fact she has a son, adding to the venerability so the situation.
The trailer also has many good aspects of a horror film trailer. The editing starts off slowly then as the clips begin to escalate so does the pace, the digetic and non digetic sound also plays huge parts in a horror film.
As music is used to enhance suspense and increase tension. The dialogue also allows part of the films story line to be revealed without giving massive amounts away.

The sound is a huge aspect which we will have to take into consideration when making our film.

"Paranormal Activity" - Official Trailer [HQ HD]

The first trailer is very different to what we would be trying to do, this trailer includes footage of the audience actually watching the film.
However it does reveal some of the storyline about the film which is essential to all trailers. The trailer also shows the same inter titles used by the actual film which is very effective in both, as it sets the scene and creates some suspense towards the audience as they begin to become more aware of each situation.

Also though out the film a majority of the shots are from a handheld camera which would have a very powerful affect on the audience as they would be able to put themselves in that situation as its from their own point of view or perspective.

However Sidney and I also understand that we will have to have a wide range of shots as parts of the mark scheme.

Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon Trailer 3 Official (HD)

There are many aspects of this trailer that we could use for our trailer. Although its a different genre the ideas behind it are still similar, such as trying to entice the audience into watching it the whole way though, meaning the audience would have a greater chance of wanting to watch the film it self.

This trailer does this in a number of ways for example the title screens don't appear until some of the clips have been shown, therefore keeping the audience watching and relieving some small aspects of the storyline.

They open the trailer with a spaceship crashing into the surface of the moon, this includes an explosion. Meaning that the audience is already closely pay attention. Then 36 seconds into the trailer the film titles apear, which is what the audience would see as less of an intrest. So showing it inbetween the parts of action and storyline the audience would stay interested thoughout and continue watching the whole trailer.

500 Days of Summer - Teaser Trailer

500 days of summer is not the conventional romantic film. Its considered a postmodern film meaning it does not follow the conventional style that most do.
These things include, boy meets girl, they then fall in love. They will them fall out, most of the time because of the boys. He will then have a daring attempt to win her back and eventually will.
However this trailer does a very good job of making you believe that. It also does a very good job of revealing parts of the story line with out showing to much. So it will have to desired advertising affect.

Horror Film cliches

There are many horror film cliches that Sidney and i have discussed and thought we would have to include in our film.
One of the first being hunted house of deserted house. Which we would easier include into our ideas as it appears to fit in this our planning.
Another cliche that is part of the horror film genre that we probably wont be including is young creepy children. Many films include a creepy kid that appears to be hunting an area and nobody knows if anyone is it parents, the child would also have a past with the house or the previous owners.

Another aspect that appears in a lot of horror films is something happening in the reflection of a mirror, which we could use to full affect in showing then audience possibly something the main protagonist doesn't see.

28 days/Weeks analysis

This is the teaser trailer for 28 days later, its a film that is also of the horror film genre similar to our first thoughts for our own trailer. Were thinking of a horror film as they are the ones that we both watch and enjoy.
Also when looking into what makes this teaser trailer effective it is a number for different things, at more than half the time its very dark coloured. There is also a lot of emphasis and different words in comparison to others.
for example the word 'infection' and 'exposure' all paint the same picture in a horror film trailer. It already makes the audience on edge and the emphasis on certain word adds great effecting in cutting from scene to scene.
Also there are many idea that i have for my trailer that are in this one. I think parts showing a deserted London with one confused person wandering helplessly adds a lot of mystery and suspense.
There are also aspects of a teaser trailer that are different to a normal one such as, they are generally shorter, don't give away much of the plot which adds to the mysterious nature of films like horror and they are normally showed before the actual trailer in order to gain publicity
